Rachael Ray Joins Katherine Heigl to Raise Funds for Spay/Neuter and Help Save Lives

Posted By on February 9, 2012

New York, NY (PRWEB) January 27, 2012

Longtime supporters of animal rights, daytime host and bestselling author Rachael Ray, and actress Katherine Heigl, are joining forces to address the pet overpopulation crisis.

Today, Katherine will appear on the syndicated Rachael Ray show to announce that Rachael has pledged $ 150,000 in proceeds from the sale of her Nutrish® line of super premium pet food to Katherines animal charity, the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation (JDHF), $ 75,000 of which will be donated to JDHF in the 4th quarter of 2012. One hundred percent of Rachaels proceeds from the sale of all the Nutrish product lines are donated to charities and shelters that support animal welfare and humane education causes similar to the JDHF. JDHF will use 100% of the donation to fund spay/neuter initiatives directly aimed at reducing the number of unwanted, yet highly adoptable and loving, pets abandoned or relinquished to municipal shelters and subsequently euthanized.

Im thrilled to have a passionate friend like Katherine to help animals in need, said Rachael. There are so many pets that have no one to love them and I am very excited that together we can donate our celebrity to give these animals a voice, a home and a healthy life.

The donation will be crucial in helping the JDHF continue its mission of eliminating the needless suffering inflicted on animals by human cruelty, indifference and ignorance.

We are very grateful for Rachael Rays donation in support of this important cause and excited for our partnership with Rachael Ray that is sure to give greater exposure to this crisis, stated Katherine Heigl. The Foundations effective programs and our shared compassion will provide a dynamic combination to help save countless lives and lend a voice to voiceless and forgotten pets in dire need of our help.

Katherine and her mother, Nancy, founded the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation in 2008 with a desire to work with compassionate and like-minded individuals and organizations to put an end to pet overpopulation, animal cruelty and abuse. Katherine has recently gone to great lengths to promote JDHF and in December 2011 partnered with Funny or Die to launch an innovative campaign called I Hate Balls (http://ihateballs.com) an edgy campaign with a mission of raising awareness about the immediate need for spay/neuter of companion pets, a simple and extremely effective means to curtail the number of adoptable pets entering public shelters and subsequently killed.

Always an animal lover and advocate, Rachael decided in 2008 to partner with Ainsworth Pet Nutrition® to create a super premium line of pet foods and treats called Rachael Ray Nutrish® as a way to continuously fund programs that help animals in need. She personally donates 100% of her proceeds from the sale of Nutrish to shelters and organizations that provide food, medical supplies and treatments for needy animals. She also created Rachaels Rescue a website that highlights organizations that are dedicated to helping animals in need. To date, Rachael has donated close to $ 3 million in cash to organizations ranging from the ASPCA and the North Shore Animal League to Mighty Mutts and Bad Rap.

Katherine and Nancy are convinced that spaying and neutering saves lives and stops litters litters that too often end up at public shelters and are subsequently killed due to a lack of adopters and lack of space. The Foundation is focused on fixing the problem. Since its inception, the Foundation has contributed more than $ 2.5 million towards saving the lives of many deserving pets and educating the public in the process.

British Airways First Class Lounges Introduce the Tiare Technology Wireless WineList System

Posted By on February 3, 2012

Cherry Hill, NJ (PRWEB) January 25, 2012

Tiare Technology announced today that it is deploying its patented Wireless WineList solution in seven British Airways First Class Lounges managed by Compass Group North America. Passengers are able to view wine, food and other beverage selections along with information regarding the services offered in the Lounge. The First Class Lounge in New Yorks JFK Airport is the first to install the system, with Lounges in Newark, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, Washington-Dulles, and Toronto, Canada to follow.

The Wireless WineList system allows passengers to easily view and select wines using a wireless Apple iPad tablet and Tiares proprietary software. British Airways passengers can use the tablets to peruse the wine list to discover wine offerings. They can also quickly sort the wines to display by region and varietal, or search to pinpoint a specific selection. The First Class Lounge dining menu is also available on the system, as well as information about luxury services and amenities offered to passengers.

The system displays extensive information about the First Class Lounges wines, including tasting notes, vintage information, and background on the winery, the region and the grape varietals.

We selected the Tiare Technology solution for their ability to customize their Wireless WineList with the functionally we required, as well as reflect the design of the First Class Lounge, says Scott Davis, President of FLIK International, a Division of Compass Group North America. Davis continues, Tiare worked with our aggressive time schedule and delivered a product that is elegant and works flawlessly. The Wireless WineList system is a cost-effective solution that goes beyond just a wine app, and allows us to expand the system to include other Lounge features and amenities.

The system is intended to complement, rather than replace, the personal attention of a sommelier or server. Passengers can place selections onto the systems Consideration List for discussion with the Lounges staff.

Passenger feedback has been positive – they are excited and surprised to see such a luxury touch in our First Class dining room. The screens look great, the handling is simple and the wine descriptions are perfect, says Michael Scheffler, Director of Food Service, British Airways First Class Lounge, JFK Airport.

For almost a decade, Tiares single focus has been to provide wireless guest ordering solutions to the hospitality, food and beverage industry, says Jeffrey Krevitt, President of Tiare Technology. Compass Group recognized it needed a comprehensive and customized business solution for their discerning guests, and could not afford to rely on a simple do-it-yourself app. Krevitt continues, Tiare understands the issues of a working food and beverage operation and brings that knowledge and experience to each customer when guiding them through the process of customizing their ordering solution.

The Tiare Wireless WineList solution allows guests at a restaurant, bar or lounge location to order wine, cocktails and other beverages from a wireless Apple iPad tablet, Android device or their own wireless device and Tiares proprietary software. Photos, wine labels, maps, videos and other information about the wines and are also displayed. Tiares Wireless WineList system is designed to meet the needs of both the wine expert and the wine novice. It offers powerful tools to allow oenophiles to easily sort, analyze and locate a particular selection, view a vertical collection or explore regional specialties. Casual users can learn about the restaurants wine offerings at their leisure, without the fear of intimidation.

The system can also allow a restaurant to enhance its relationship with the guests, by providing the option to email themselves their wine selections or link to social media as a memento of their experience at the restaurant. Guest wine preferences can be stored for future communication between the guest and the restaurant. The system can be configured to page the staff with the guests selection, or even place the order directly to the restaurants point of sale system.

Second-Graders Receive Dr. Hopes Act of Kindness Award

Posted By on January 17, 2012

Everett, WA (PRWEB) January 05, 2012

LaughingDay.com is a childrens website designed by Dr. Hope to inspire children to believe in themselves, to teach them the joy in helping others, the love of laughter, to always try their best and the benefits of living in the present moment.

Nancy Fee, a second-grade teacher at Mukilteos Challenger Elementary School, was browsing the internet looking for nursery rhymes when she came across http://www.LaughingDay.com, Dr. Hopes childrens website. There she discovered Dr. Hopes on-going Act of Kindness contest, a contest to inspire and reward children for doing selfless acts of kindness. On behalf of her students she wrote and told Dr. Hope what her kids had been doing.

Nearly three-quarters of the students at Challenger Elementary come from low-income families. One day Ms. Fee had a conversation with four little girls in her class and was struck by the compassion and caring of which these 7-year-olds were capable. The children told her of a new student, not in their class, that they had seen at recess, dressed in the same unwashed clothes for a week, who was friendless and alone on the playground. They were worried about the trauma this new girl was facing not knowing anyone and worried about her family perhaps being homeless.

These four sweet girls went out of their way to help the new girl find friends: A simple act of kindness. This then inspired Ms. Fees entire class to do similar acts of kindness. They formed a group called, Kids for Kindness to spread joy to others and in doing so experience the joy one feels when one selflessly participates in helping others.

Ms. Fees students have snuck into other classrooms, while those kids were out, and left little notes to inspire feelings of self worth, sometimes they delivered treats. Theyve helped the custodians by picking up trash around the campus. Theyve written notes of appreciation to the school nurse and librarian. They made and sent cards to veterans on Veterans Day thanking them for their service. They have spread joy into the hearts of local seniors by reading and playing games with them.

One of my goals is to give kids a head start in life. Im fortunate to be able to do that through my childrens books. Teaching children the importance of helping others is a value that will help them throughout their lives, said author, Tim Dr. Hope Anders, Helping others is contagious. What these kids have done here is exactly what the Act of Kindness contest is all about: helping one another. It is my great honor and privilege to send the award and storybooks to these children.

Each child that participated received their own copy of the award-winning childrens book,Laughing Day/El Dia para Reir personally individually autographed to each child by author Dr. Hope, J.A.P.D. (Just A Pretend Doctor) Laughing Day/El Dia para Reir is a storybook written in English and Spanish, that shows how a simple act of kindness can spread from community to community.

This contest is on-going and open to children anywhere in the country. I hope other teachers will read this and enter their classes, said Dr. Hope.

Swifto Launches Dog Walking Service to Find People Great Dog Walkers in 60 Minutes or Less

Posted By on January 7, 2012

New York, NY (PRWEB) December 28, 2011

Swifto, a company that helps New Yorkers get what they need when they need it now, has recently launched a new service specifically for those in need of an on-call dog walker. Now, tired New Yorkers wont have to face the daunting task of having to walk their dog after a long day at work. They can simply go to http://www.swifto.com/dog-walking and enter in the time, duration and location and the database will find an experienced, suitable dog walker within moments, ready to take the job.

People anywhere in New York City can go to the website and enter in their specific pick-up time and walk length and get connected within minutes to the right dog walker, fit and available at the designated time. And since Swifto auto charges customers cards after each walk, dog owners dont need to worry about having cash on them to pay or tip directly to the walker.

While the walker is out with the dog, owners can utilize one of the coolest features Swifto Dog Walking has to offer – the ability to track the dog, during the walk, from their smart phone. The app displays a map in real time, showing the dogs location and will send notifications to the owner alerting them as to when they might greet another dog on the street or when the dog stops to do his business.

At the end of the walk, the customers can rate the walker. A higher rating will increase the number of points the dog walker will get, and thus, the amount hell be earning in his next job. This ensures that the dog walker, who naturally treats every dog with complete care and compassion, is even more motivated to do a good job.

The company takes good care of the dog owners and the dog walkers. But, most importantly, the company takes good care of the dogs. To demonstrate their affection towards these furry friends, for every 100 walks ordered through the website, Swifto will make a donation to a different dog shelter in NYC.

Penina First, the CEO of Swifto, explains that Every shelter and dog-related-organization in NYC can apply to be the next one in line to get the donation. When hiring us, our users know they are also helping save other dogs that didnt have the same luck as theirs.

According to First, the business is growing at an amazing rate and everyday there is someone from a different city asking when they are going to expand to the rest of the country.

So, next time the dog comes begging for a walk, and there isnt enough time in the day, dont feel guilty, use Swifto Dog Walkings service and try it out.

The Sacramento/San Mateo Assisted Living Providers, CiminoCare, Announces They are Now Under Medi-Cal Assisted Living Waiver Program

Posted By on January 4, 2012

Citrus Heights, CA (PRWEB) December 23, 2011

CiminoCare, with facilities in the Sacramento and San Mateo counties, is now a part of the Medi-Cal Assisted Living Waiver Program. CiminoCares River Fountains of Lodi Assisted Living Facility, along Turner Road in Lodi, has been receiving residents for the past five months following the programs launch by the state and the approval of CiminoCares application in the spring of this year.

CiminoCare believes this will be one of the key solutions to providing cost-effective, long-term care in the years to come, says Mark J. Cimino, CEO.

CiminoCares inclusion in Medi-Cals assisted living program is a significant step toward the economizing efforts of California in caring for its seniors without sacrificing the quality that residents deserve. Before, the only option for long term care for Medi-Cal beneficiaries was to settle in skilled nursing facilities, yet it has been found that a substantial number of these residents could actually reside in assisted living facilities instead, where they would get the same quality of care but in a more home-like atmosphere at a lower cost.

California is now among more than 30 states in the country that have allowed federal Medicade (Medi-Cal in California) to channel part of its budget to assisted living. A growing number of counties within the state have already been approved for Medi-Cals new program, such as Sacramento, San Joaquin, Los Angeles, Sonoma, Fresno, San Bernardino, and Riverside. Under this program, assisted living facilities in California will be paid the Supplemental Security Income from the resident but will charge the remainder of the bill to Medi-Cal.

For more information on the Sacramento/San Mateo independent senior living program and on Medi-Cals Assisted Living Waiver Program and how CiminoCare can help long term care recipients with its own assisted living service, feel free to contact Mary Ann Shin at 916-473-2221, or by visiting either their website at http://www.ciminocare.com or their office located at 7501 Sunrise Blvd. in Citrus Heights.

Center for Autism and Related Disorders Receives Grant to Help San Diego Children with Autism

Posted By on January 1, 2012

(PRWEB) December 21, 2011

The National Foundation for Autism Research has awarded the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) research and development department a Community Project Grant. The grant will be used for CARDs Creating Opportunities to Meet Peers and Advance Social Skills (COMPASS) study to teach social skills in a playgroup setting to children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). CARDs San Diego, California, treatment center will conduct several 12-week playgroups, starting in February, 2012.

The COMPASS study, which is a randomized controlled trial, will include 24 children between the ages of five and seven years who reside in San Diego. It will specifically measure each participants improvement and generalization of skills in five key areas that include sharing, turn taking, initiating play, joining play, and maintaining play.

We are grateful for NFARs support. Many individuals with autism spectrum disorders face significant challenges in the development of social skills. Our study will conduct behaviorally oriented playgroups with the goal of enhancing foundational social skills. Such social skills are known to be essential to overall quality of life, says CARD Director of Research and Development Jonathan Tarbox, PhD, BCBA-D. Tarbox is the studys principal investigator. We are hoping the San Diego study can provide a research-based model that any community can easily duplicate.

The NFAR Community Project Grant will support CARDs research department in its groundbreaking work. The primary focus of CARD research is assessment and treatment based on applied behavior analysis (ABA), although CARDs research addresses any topic that may hold promise for producing information that could improve the lives of individuals with autism.
