Second-Graders Receive Dr. Hopes Act of Kindness Award

Posted By on January 17, 2012

Everett, WA (PRWEB) January 05, 2012

LaughingDay.com is a childrens website designed by Dr. Hope to inspire children to believe in themselves, to teach them the joy in helping others, the love of laughter, to always try their best and the benefits of living in the present moment.

Nancy Fee, a second-grade teacher at Mukilteos Challenger Elementary School, was browsing the internet looking for nursery rhymes when she came across http://www.LaughingDay.com, Dr. Hopes childrens website. There she discovered Dr. Hopes on-going Act of Kindness contest, a contest to inspire and reward children for doing selfless acts of kindness. On behalf of her students she wrote and told Dr. Hope what her kids had been doing.

Nearly three-quarters of the students at Challenger Elementary come from low-income families. One day Ms. Fee had a conversation with four little girls in her class and was struck by the compassion and caring of which these 7-year-olds were capable. The children told her of a new student, not in their class, that they had seen at recess, dressed in the same unwashed clothes for a week, who was friendless and alone on the playground. They were worried about the trauma this new girl was facing not knowing anyone and worried about her family perhaps being homeless.

These four sweet girls went out of their way to help the new girl find friends: A simple act of kindness. This then inspired Ms. Fees entire class to do similar acts of kindness. They formed a group called, Kids for Kindness to spread joy to others and in doing so experience the joy one feels when one selflessly participates in helping others.

Ms. Fees students have snuck into other classrooms, while those kids were out, and left little notes to inspire feelings of self worth, sometimes they delivered treats. Theyve helped the custodians by picking up trash around the campus. Theyve written notes of appreciation to the school nurse and librarian. They made and sent cards to veterans on Veterans Day thanking them for their service. They have spread joy into the hearts of local seniors by reading and playing games with them.

One of my goals is to give kids a head start in life. Im fortunate to be able to do that through my childrens books. Teaching children the importance of helping others is a value that will help them throughout their lives, said author, Tim Dr. Hope Anders, Helping others is contagious. What these kids have done here is exactly what the Act of Kindness contest is all about: helping one another. It is my great honor and privilege to send the award and storybooks to these children.

Each child that participated received their own copy of the award-winning childrens book,Laughing Day/El Dia para Reir personally individually autographed to each child by author Dr. Hope, J.A.P.D. (Just A Pretend Doctor) Laughing Day/El Dia para Reir is a storybook written in English and Spanish, that shows how a simple act of kindness can spread from community to community.

This contest is on-going and open to children anywhere in the country. I hope other teachers will read this and enter their classes, said Dr. Hope.

About Tim Dr. Hope Anders: Dr. Hope is an award-winning childrens book author who also writes books for grownups. For more information about him go to http://www.DrHope.com.

Swifto Launches Dog Walking Service to Find People Great Dog Walkers in 60 Minutes or Less

Posted By on January 7, 2012

New York, NY (PRWEB) December 28, 2011

Swifto, a company that helps New Yorkers get what they need when they need it now, has recently launched a new service specifically for those in need of an on-call dog walker. Now, tired New Yorkers wont have to face the daunting task of having to walk their dog after a long day at work. They can simply go to http://www.swifto.com/dog-walking and enter in the time, duration and location and the database will find an experienced, suitable dog walker within moments, ready to take the job.

People anywhere in New York City can go to the website and enter in their specific pick-up time and walk length and get connected within minutes to the right dog walker, fit and available at the designated time. And since Swifto auto charges customers cards after each walk, dog owners dont need to worry about having cash on them to pay or tip directly to the walker.

While the walker is out with the dog, owners can utilize one of the coolest features Swifto Dog Walking has to offer – the ability to track the dog, during the walk, from their smart phone. The app displays a map in real time, showing the dogs location and will send notifications to the owner alerting them as to when they might greet another dog on the street or when the dog stops to do his business.

At the end of the walk, the customers can rate the walker. A higher rating will increase the number of points the dog walker will get, and thus, the amount hell be earning in his next job. This ensures that the dog walker, who naturally treats every dog with complete care and compassion, is even more motivated to do a good job.

The company takes good care of the dog owners and the dog walkers. But, most importantly, the company takes good care of the dogs. To demonstrate their affection towards these furry friends, for every 100 walks ordered through the website, Swifto will make a donation to a different dog shelter in NYC.

Penina First, the CEO of Swifto, explains that Every shelter and dog-related-organization in NYC can apply to be the next one in line to get the donation. When hiring us, our users know they are also helping save other dogs that didnt have the same luck as theirs.

According to First, the business is growing at an amazing rate and everyday there is someone from a different city asking when they are going to expand to the rest of the country.

So, next time the dog comes begging for a walk, and there isnt enough time in the day, dont feel guilty, use Swifto Dog Walkings service and try it out.

Like AirBnB, Uber, and GetAround, Swifto is one of those companies that get real world problems solved seamlessly using Technology.

The Sacramento/San Mateo Assisted Living Providers, CiminoCare, Announces They are Now Under Medi-Cal Assisted Living Waiver Program

Posted By on January 4, 2012

Citrus Heights, CA (PRWEB) December 23, 2011

CiminoCare, with facilities in the Sacramento and San Mateo counties, is now a part of the Medi-Cal Assisted Living Waiver Program. CiminoCares River Fountains of Lodi Assisted Living Facility, along Turner Road in Lodi, has been receiving residents for the past five months following the programs launch by the state and the approval of CiminoCares application in the spring of this year.

CiminoCare believes this will be one of the key solutions to providing cost-effective, long-term care in the years to come, says Mark J. Cimino, CEO.

CiminoCares inclusion in Medi-Cals assisted living program is a significant step toward the economizing efforts of California in caring for its seniors without sacrificing the quality that residents deserve. Before, the only option for long term care for Medi-Cal beneficiaries was to settle in skilled nursing facilities, yet it has been found that a substantial number of these residents could actually reside in assisted living facilities instead, where they would get the same quality of care but in a more home-like atmosphere at a lower cost.

California is now among more than 30 states in the country that have allowed federal Medicade (Medi-Cal in California) to channel part of its budget to assisted living. A growing number of counties within the state have already been approved for Medi-Cals new program, such as Sacramento, San Joaquin, Los Angeles, Sonoma, Fresno, San Bernardino, and Riverside. Under this program, assisted living facilities in California will be paid the Supplemental Security Income from the resident but will charge the remainder of the bill to Medi-Cal.

For more information on the Sacramento/San Mateo independent senior living program and on Medi-Cals Assisted Living Waiver Program and how CiminoCare can help long term care recipients with its own assisted living service, feel free to contact Mary Ann Shin at 916-473-2221, or by visiting either their website at http://www.ciminocare.com or their office located at 7501 Sunrise Blvd. in Citrus Heights.

About CiminoCare

CiminoCare has been caring for the aging population of North California for more than two decades, and the Cimino family has done so with the utmost compassion, respect, and dignity that has been paid to their own family elders. This solicitude finds its roots in the familys Italian tradition, and has manifested itself in CiminoCares highly regarded nurturing services in assisted living, residential care, independent senior living, and memory care.

Center for Autism and Related Disorders Receives Grant to Help San Diego Children with Autism

Posted By on January 1, 2012

(PRWEB) December 21, 2011

The National Foundation for Autism Research has awarded the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) research and development department a Community Project Grant. The grant will be used for CARDs Creating Opportunities to Meet Peers and Advance Social Skills (COMPASS) study to teach social skills in a playgroup setting to children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). CARDs San Diego, California, treatment center will conduct several 12-week playgroups, starting in February, 2012.

The COMPASS study, which is a randomized controlled trial, will include 24 children between the ages of five and seven years who reside in San Diego. It will specifically measure each participants improvement and generalization of skills in five key areas that include sharing, turn taking, initiating play, joining play, and maintaining play.

We are grateful for NFARs support. Many individuals with autism spectrum disorders face significant challenges in the development of social skills. Our study will conduct behaviorally oriented playgroups with the goal of enhancing foundational social skills. Such social skills are known to be essential to overall quality of life, says CARD Director of Research and Development Jonathan Tarbox, PhD, BCBA-D. Tarbox is the studys principal investigator. We are hoping the San Diego study can provide a research-based model that any community can easily duplicate.

The NFAR Community Project Grant will support CARDs research department in its groundbreaking work. The primary focus of CARD research is assessment and treatment based on applied behavior analysis (ABA), although CARDs research addresses any topic that may hold promise for producing information that could improve the lives of individuals with autism.

About the Center for Autism and Related Disorders:

The Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) is among the world’s largest and most experienced organizations effectively treating children with autism and related disorders with state-of-the-art therapy. The mission of CARDs research department is to conduct empirical research on the assessment and treatment of autism and to disseminate its research findings and derived technology through publication and the education of both professionals and the public. For more information about CARD, visit http://www.centerforautism.com.

About the National Foundation for Autism Research:

The National Foundation for Autism Research (NFAR) was founded in December, 2003, to aid in the development, expansion and support of effective treatment programs and services that improve the quality of life for children and young adults with autism and autism spectrum disorders.
